The regular meeting of the Board of Trustees was held on August 21, 2007. President Shawn Gavan called the meeting to order at 7:02pm. Present were Director Ann Perrigo, Trustees Nancy Ingalsbee, Shawn Gavan, Hollis Hough, Billi Williams and City Representative Brian Wott.

President Shawn Gavan introduced and welcomed our new Trustee Billi Williams.

Election of officers was held. Nomination of Shawn Gavan for President was made by Trustee Hough, seconded by Trustee Ingalsbee, Nancy Ingalsbee for Vice President by Trustee Gavan, seconded by Trustee Hough, and Susan Jerkatis for Secretary by Trustee Ingalsbee, seconded by Trustee Hough. The entire slate was elected by acclamation.

Minutes from the July Board meeting were approved upon a motion made by Trustee Gavan and seconded by Trustee Williams. The financial reports were reviewed, and, upon a motion made by Trustee Hough, seconded by Trustee Ingalsbee, the bills presented by Director Perrigo were approved for payment.

OLD BUSINESS:

Friends Committee: The Friends Committee did not meet in July.

SMLC: The Cooperative has been totally closed down and our library received some computers and computer equipment from the closure of the office.

District Issue: The committee has not met but a meeting will be scheduled shortly.

Building Maintenance: The painting is nearly completed except where some repairs must be made first. We are waiting for estimates on the remodeling of the work room, and one for a new floor will be added to the previous requests. The air conditioner will be installed by the end of the month. The price was less than the $5000 allotted. The carpet needs cleaned and the Director was authorized to contact someone to perform this task.

Policy Committee: This committee will meet before the September Board

Director’s Evaluation: The Director’s evaluation was held in July and the results will be provided to the Director for her personnel file by Secretary Ingalsbee.

Library Goals: It was decided by consensus that we would like to finish the remodeling of the meeting room by replacing the current ceiling lights. We will be looking for suitable replacements. It was suggested we see if there would be a possibility of a program where patrons could purchase a light, or contribute to the purchase, as a memorial to someone.

New Business:

Meeting: There will be a meeting with Bill Caddell, Director of the Frankfort, IN library in September at a cost of $15 per person. Trustees were urged to try and attend and informed

they must make reservations by September 7th.

Identity Theft Seminar: A seminar on identity theft will be held at the library on Tuesday, October 9, at 7:00 p.m.

Landscaping: The Trustees complimented the anonymous person who has landscaped the area next to the sidewalk from the parking lot. She not only planted the flowers, but is maintaining them also. A letter will be sent to the newspaper thanking her as well as to Ace Hardware and Mendema’s Gardens for providing the flowers and the shredded bark.

Librarians Report: The summer reading program is now winding down and was successful. The Book club is held on the first Tuesday of each month and the last meeting had 13 people. The next book will be Challenger Park.

Public Comment: The public has commented about how nice the new landscaping looks next to the walkway, and how helpful the new railing is at the end of the sidewalk to the parking lot.

The meeting was adjourned at 8:35 pm. The next meeting will be at 7:00 pm, Tuesday September 18, 2007.

Respectfully Submitted
