Allegan Public Library

Minutes

January 22, 2008

The meeting was called to order by President Shawn Gavan at 7:07 P.M. Present were President Shawn Gavan, Trustees Hollis Hough, Nancy Ingalsbee, Billi Williams, and new Trustee Ed Kowalski. Also present was Library Director Ann Perrigo.

New Trustee Ed Kowalski was introduced and welcomed to the Board.

Minutes of the December 18, 2007 Board Meeting were approved as read upon a Motion made by Trustee Hough and seconded by Trustee Williams.

The Financial Reports were reviewed and the bills presented by Director Perrigo were approved upon a Motion made by Trustee Ingalsbee and seconded by Trustee Kowalski.

Old Business:

Friends: The Friends Report was given by Trustee Ingalsbee. The next Friends program will be Sunday, January 27th and will be John Pahl talking about the new book on Allegan.

District Issue: The Committee is currently looking into insurance issues, and going forward on this entire process. They are waiting to hear from the State Library on the proposed boundaries.

Building Maintenance: We are waiting for a quote on the work room project. Trustee Williams will follow up on that. We are having a problem with the gutters and the overhang and they will need to be fixed in the Spring. We need to find a handyman who can take care of various maintenance issues.

Homebound Program: We are trying to get the word out on this new program. It was in the Flashes and the Grand Rapids Press, and Trustee Ingalsbee spoke with the Allegan County News and they have promised to promote it in this weeks’ newspaper.

Personnel Issues: We had three options to handle the personnel hours issue that arose. The Board chose to adopt the option whereby library personnel will conform their hours to meet the criteria for regular part-time employees in order to obtain paid time off benefits. This is acceptable to the employees. Trustee Ingalsbee is drafting a Personnel Handbook for when we become a District.

Township Contributions: The letters have been sent and it was noted with appreciation that Allegan Township has already forwarded its contribution. Along with the contribution letters the townships were given an explanation of the District issue and its progress.

Energy Committee Report: President Gavan gave a report on progress in the ongoing energy analysis and the changes we are making and working on.

New Business:

There was no new business to come before the Board.

Librarian’s Report: Director Perrigo informed the Board she felt the ALA meeting was wonderful and very worthwhile. She came away with much information and new ideas.

Upon a Motion made by Trustee Hough, and seconded by Trustee Kowalski, the meeting was adjourned at 8:43 P.M.

Respectfully submitted,

Nancy Ingalsbee, Secretary ProTem
