                                             Internet Use Policy

The internet is a global collection of computer networks that connects thousands of computers all over the world. Use of the Allegan District Library’s Internet computers provide patrons with access to the vast amount of information available through these connections. Although the internet provides access to valuable sources of information, the library can make no guarantee regarding the accuracy or completeness of information found there. There are sites on the internet which may be considered controversial or inappropriate. The library cannot protect users from information that the user may find offensive.

Filtered stations are available for those who prefer them, and for all minors.

Parents or guardians are responsible for the supervision of their children who use the internet, and for information accessed by their children. They should discuss internet safety with their children. The library will provide users with information on this topic.

User Responsibilities and Guidelines

Patrons under the age of 18 must have the signature of a parent or guardian.

Users will sign up to reserve computer time. One workstation is set aside for 15 minute sessions; the other stations may be booked for 60 minutes.

Use of the internet is a privilege, not a right, and inappropriate use will result in cancellation of the privilege.  Examples of inappropriate use include, but are not limited to, the following :

  • storage of data to anything other than a personal diskette
  • unauthorized tampering with computer hardware or software
  • violation of computer system integrity or
  • violation of another user’s privacy.

Be respectful of those around you, remembering that this is a District Library, used by people of all ages. The library reserves the right to ask individuals to discontinue the display of information and images which are inappropriate in a library setting. Failure to comply may result in loss of privileges.

Material may be printed from the internet workstation at a cost of .15 per page, but the first three copies are free.

At the discretion of the Library Director, patrons with seriously overdue materials may be denied internet access.
