Youth Services Librarian

The Allegan District Library is looking for an enthusiastic and committed librarian to plan and implement a full range of programs for young people to support the library’s mission. This position will ideally be filled by an energetic, creative, flexible team player with a great sense of humor and an ability to plan strategically for the future growth and development of the youth programs and collection. The City of Allegan is set on the lovely Kalamazoo River, less than an hour from Kalamazoo, Holland, and Grand Rapids. Although it is the county seat, Allegan retains the charm of a rural small town. ADL is a Class IV District Library serving a population of about 17,000 and its Carnegie building, dating from 1914, is an integral part of the community.

Major Responsibilities:

  • manage and supervise operations of the Children’s Room and teen section of the library

  • create programs for children of all ages

  • select and maintain a well-rounded collection of materials for children and teens

  • assist with public relations activities

  • perform community outreach

  • stay abreast of developments in library science through research and professional growth

Requirements:

  • Masters Degree in Library Science

  • Level II Professional Librarian Certification

  • Minimum of two years professional librarian experience preferred

  • Previous experience in youth services programming in a public library

Salary commensurate with experience, starting at $12.55 per hour; full benefit package; 40-hour work week including some evenings and Saturdays.
