Library Centennial Event 1914-2014 showing life in 1914
Our presenter is Norm Krentel – Illinois Railway Museum Director. Did you know that the USA’s first electric interurban mass transit system (1890-1920) was the Holland to Saugatuck line? Allegan’s interurban left Monroe Street every two hours, 9 am to 9 pm, to Monteith Junction where passengers changed for Grand Rapids or Kalamazoo, or stayed on the line to Battle Creek. Come and learn about this fascinating part of life in 1914 – the year when the Carnegie Library was built.
