All aspects of the Allegan District Library’s Internet Use Policy also apply to the laptop computers checked out for in-library use.
First-time users must read and confirm this Laptop Computer Use Agreement prior to checking out a laptop. A note will be added to the patron record, indicating the date the form was approved.
The user must be 18 years of age and have a library card that is in good standing (with fines of less than $10.00). The user must leave that card, along with a valid ID (Driver’s license or Michigan ID) at the circulation desk while using the laptop.
The laptop can be used in the library only. Removal of the laptop from the library will be considered theft.
The laptops will be available on a first come, first serve basis. The laptops cannot be reserved. The laptops will be loaned for 1 hour, and can be renewed if no one is waiting.
Never leave the laptop unattended for any reason. If you must leave your space, take the laptop to the circulation desk and ask a staff member to keep it while you are away from your space.
The laptop must be returned to a staff person when user’s time is expired.
The patron to whom the laptop is checked out is responsible for any loss or damage that occurs before it is returned to library staff. The patron will pay the cost of repairs for any physical damage that occurs while in his/her possession.
Patrons may not save to the hard drive of any library laptop. It is the responsibility of the user to bring a data storage device compatible with the computers. No start-up disks or software from outside the library are permitted. Any changes made to the laptop configuration are undone upon reboot of the laptop. Patrons may print to the wireless printer.
Library staff may suspend or terminate laptop privileges if borrower violates Library rules or policies, or if the borrower fails to use the laptop in a responsible manner.
